Carpets for different rooms and uses

Living room and dining room
Your show rooms need a good quality carpet with stain protection.

Hall and stairs
Need to be hard wearing. A soil-resist finish is beneficial.

Bedrooms
Low traffic areas. Lighter colours and softer piles are generally preferred. You may want a hard-wearing carpet for a child's bedroom.

Bathrooms
Foam-backed styles are cost effective, but a secondary-backed carpet with an underlay is equally suitable.

Kitchen
Need to be hard wearing, low pile, with a soil-resist treatment.

Carpet Effects

Pale Shades
make a small room look larger, whilst darker warmer colours give a cosy effect.

Heavily Pattened
carpets are more suitable for larger rooms, and make them more intimate.

Windows and lighting
in a room can also affect the way the carpet looks. So too does the angle of the pile.

Carpet Underlay

A good underlay can prolong your carpet's life by as much as 40%. Acts as a shock absorber and so reduces carpet stress and wear. Provides more comfort, sound insulation (making your home quieter), and heat insulation (making your home feel warmer and helping reduce your energy bills). A good underlay also helps to prevent rucking, and indentation marks caused by furniture.

Caring for a new carpet

Wool carpets
For the first few weeks, a wool carpet sheds fibre - this is the sign of a good quality arpet. Sweeping with a soft brush is recommended during this period.

Daily Maintenance
Wool is naturally clean and releases dust easily. It is not necessary to use a vacuum cleaner more than once or twice a week.

Spring Cleaning
Preferably done by professionals every two or three years. If you do it yourself, follow the instructions on the machine carefully, do not over-wet the carpet, and do not add more cleaning agent than instructed.
